VAT Exemption/Zero Rated

VAT Zero Requirements:

Blinds Direct Ltd is a private limited company incorporated on 26 January 2016 and registered under SIC codes 13921 (Manufacture of soft furnishings), 43390 (Other building completion and finishing) and 47990 (Other retail sale not in stores, stalls or markets). The Company manufactures, supplies and installs blinds, shutters, curtains and related window coverings for residential, commercial and trade customers across the West Midlands region.

The standard rate of VAT in the United Kingdom is 20%. However, Schedule 8 to the VATA 1994 sets out categories of supply that are zero-rated — taxed at 0%

Manual blinds & shutters —supply & install in new-build residential (construction phase) – R&C Brief 5/2021; Sch 8 Grp 5 VATA 1994

Disability-adapted blinds —blackout/sensory range (designed solely for disabled use) – VAT Notice 701/7; Sch 8 Grp 12 VATA 1994

Smart/motorised blinds designed solely for physically disabled persons unable to use manual blinds

Manual blinds supplied to DIY self-builders during qualifying self- build construction Section 35 VATA 1994; R&C Brief 5/2021

Qualifying goods supplied to registered charities for disabled persons’ domestic use – VAT Notice 701/7; Notice 701/1

-Manual blinds & shutters

-Complete blackout blind solutions for disabled use – includes FR materials for commercial uses. Example, Roller Cassette Blind finished with brush lined side channels to eliminate light bleed (up to 99%) – can be operated via chain fixed at minimum 1.5mtr from ground or using motor operated via Remote/Smart Hub/App (voice activated capability with Alexa/Google Home)

-Anti-ligature options available for all including motorised options, where applicable. Examples, wand operated vertical blinds with chainless/sewn in weights. Spring operated roller blinds, spring operated fauxwood (non-FR) venetian blinds, motorised blinds and

-FR materials for all blind types – Flame Retardant (certification available upon request)

-Recycled environmentally friendly materials
